Rotating Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

Before you figure out when to rotate tires, you’ll need to understand which drivetrain your vehicle employs. The front-wheel and rear-wheel drivetrains simply mean where the engine sends its power. The set of tires that receive the most power will be worn the fastest, so keep these tips in mind when it’s time to rotate your tires: 

• For FWD or RWD cars, tire rotation needs to be performed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. 
• For FWD tire rotations, be sure to only flip sides when moving the rear tires to the front of the vehicle.
• For a RWD car, you’ll invert the previous process. You will only flip sides when you move the front tires to the back.
• If you happen to go off-road in Chandler or beyond, keep in mind that may shift how often you should rotate your tires.

When to Rotate Tires with AWD

So, how many miles to rotate tires if your car has all-wheel drive? If you cruise around Santan in an AWD model, you’ll have not only a different tire rotation pattern but when you rotate your tires might change to every 3,000 to 5,000 miles if you use AWD regularly. Here are four tips to keep in mind for AWD tire rotation: 

1. The left rear goes to the right front spot.
2. The right rear goes to the left front spot.
3. The right front goes to the left rear spot.
4. The left front goes to the right rear spot.
