Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil

Regular oil changes can keep your car running smoothly for miles and miles on the Santan roads, but when you visit the service center, what type of oil should you choose? The experts at Bill Luke SanTan are here to run through the basic differences between synthetic vs. conventional oil. While both will get the job done, you might find that one suits your wants and needs just a little better for the Chandler roads ahead. What is Conventional (Regular) Oil?

Comparing synthetic oil vs. regular oil, regular oil is the original formula that has been used in internal combustion engines for decades in Mesa. Motor oil lubricates the moving parts of the engine and helps to regulate the temperature, which keeps wear and tear to a minimum. Conventional oil is the basic formulation, which is derived from crude oil.

What is Synthetic Oil?

When you look at synthetic oil vs. regular oil, both oil types serve the same function. Both keep the engine running, both prevent overheating, and both are derived from crude oil. However, synthetic is refined even further than conventional oil. The result is a more stable formulation that doesn’t break down or oxidize as easily. Here are a few of the benefits:

  • Less viscous at lower temperatures
  • Enhanced engine cleaning properties
  • Better protection for critical turbocharger parts (when equipped)

How Do Full Synthetic vs. Synthetic Blends Differ?

We’ve looked at synthetic vs. conventional oil, but what about full synthetic oil vs. synthetic blend formulas? Synthetic blends combine both conventional and synthetic formulas in different proportions. This creates a longer-lasting blend that isn’t as expensive as a full synthetic formula. However, some vehicles require full synthetic oil – so check your owner’s manual to be sure!
